about me

My name is Evy Kapanieri.

I'm Greek-American and I have been living and taking care of dogs since a very young age. Living in Greece, I had the opportunity to live around and observe street dogs in city centers, free roaming dogs in more suburban areas and dogs that had been given the exclusive role of a "pet". It was always so interesting to observe heir differences and similarities.

But more important, I was fascinated early on by how dogs truly communicate naturally and how smart they are.

When I decided that dog behaviour was something I felt passionate about, I had the luck to find teachers such as Turid Rugaas and learned a lot about how dogs communicate, what their real needs are and how to co exist with them in the most ethical way.

I finished all four levels of Nordic Dog Trainer School and now I have the privilege to continue my journey in this international and ethical community, by also working as a teacher there.

In 2023, I completed the one year course on Aggression in dogs for professionals by Dr.Amber Batson. Alongside the expert courses, I attended seminars and workshops on applied zoopharmacognosy, myotherapy, sensory integration and many others, that helped me broaden my perception on how dogs experience the world and how to apply this knowledge to improve their well-being and general quality of life.

Amongst the favourite courses I taken are the ones on nosework activities, their importance in behaviour modification and general wellbeing of dogs by Anne Lill Kvam. Both online but also in person practical training in Norway with her too.

Before advancing my knowledge so much in the recent years, I have been offering dog walking and dog sitting services for more than 15 years. I have also been living with two amazing dogs, Banjo and Betty, the last 8 and 7 years.

They are the ones that made me take this journey and made me search for better ways to communicate with them more profoundly.

Now, apart from my one to one consultations and helping out clients to get to learn more about dogs, how to observe and understand them and how to best communicate and respond to their needs, I will be organising seminars both for professionals but also for caregivers too with very interesting topics, offering valuable opportunities to all participants to learn from incredible professionals.

But my most precious "child" is the publication project I started. It is such an honour that the first book to translate and distribute in Greek is Turid's book "On talking terms with dogs". More books are along the way and I'm very excited to be part of making all this knowledge and information accessible to more and more people.

I am a proud member of the PDTE association (associate membership number: A425) and country representative for Greece.

I work with positive, force free, choice led and respectful methods and philosophy considering each dogs individual needs and personality.

Experience

2010-Present

Pet sitting and dog walking services

Starting off as a request from friends and neighbours when they had no one to care for the dogs when they where not able, I slowly started educating myself and starting to offer my services to more and more people, realizing this is one of the most beautiful and rewarding occupations a person can have.

Now I do not take much clients due to lack of time, but I can happily refer several others that can responsibly take on the task.

2018-Present

Dog Training

The concept of dog training for me has shifted from asking a dog to perform tasks because he or she is rewarded...to being able to communicate their feelings
